That is why Doug, Tory, Jessica, Donny, Chad, Katy, and I have done our own plumbing, dry-wall, electrical work, tiling, building of decks, replacing of roofs, laying of concrete, etc.... I am not sure there is a thing we have not done. My kids have diverse trade abilities, along with their jobs/careers. I have called Chad and distracted him from putting new rotors in his car.
Today I called Jessica and she was buying a counter-top to install. We are definitely do-it-yourselfers and we believe we can do anything! That not only comes from my dad, but also my mom. When they saw we wanted to do something with our house, like change an attic to a new bedroom, they would arrive and just start tearing down and then building up.
They always worked together with us, so we would then know how. That does mean we are all that dysfunctional, but we have our moments. One time when my mom and dad were helping me strip paint off my windows, my dad and I were on ladders outside the window and my mom was inside, using a burning gun. Well, didn't she start a fire in the insulation under the window. Dad and I saw the smoke and started yelling, "Mom, go get water, hurry, we need to get this fire out." Mom got up and excitedly ran down the hall to the bathroom and came back with, what she obviously thought would put out a fire, a Dixie-cup of water. It actually did the trick! Dad and I laughed for a week about that. Lucky the house did not burn down, but it was totally worth the story.
